I’m passionate about love and marriage and even more passionate about helping other wives to discover their passions and chase their dreams while maintaining happy, healthy marriages. As wives, we are the real MVPs. We juggle so many different things and each and every one of us WERKS in one way or another (whether that be by holding a traditional job outside of the home, managing our own blog, business, or brand, or doing something totally different). I’m a firm believer that this is something that should be celebrated, and that’s why I created LiveLifeWell’s monthly Wives Who WERK segment. Each month, I will be interviewing a wife in order to celebrate her and what she does. I would love to feature you! If you’re a wife who would be interested in being featured or if you want to nominate someone else, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Throughout the time I’ve been blogging, I’ve had the pleasure of connecting on and off line with many other bloggers. One of the bloggers that I have crossed paths with online many times is Valerie Robinson, the founder and editor-in-chief of Unapologetically Us. Unapologetically Us is lifestyle brand and online community that Mrs. Robinson created in 2014 as a digital space for black women. I am excited to spotlight her as a wife who WERKS!
What makes you more than a wifey?
I am more than a wifey because I am completely whole in my own right. My husband is an added bonus and being his wife is just one of the many things that makes my life so special.
How did you determine your passion?
I’ve always had a passion for the arts and creativity in general. I read a lot of books and started writing at a really young age. Not to my surprise, the passion transferred into my adult life and it was a no-brainer to create my own space for that to share with others.
Tell us your love story! How did you and your husband meet? How long have you been married?
We met right out of college at a surprise party. A mutual friend introduced us (shoutout to her)! The funny thing is that I thought he was attractive, but we didn’t hit it off right away – he thought I was stuck-up and I thought he was rude. Oddly enough, we both asked our mutual friend about one another the very next day! Weird, huh?
How has your husband supported you and your dreams?
This man has seen the good, bad and ugly of my endeavors. He believed that I could go “bigger” even when I didn’t believe it myself. Supports goes a long way coming from the ones closest to you, and I am grateful.
How do you balance your household/marital responsibilities and your blog and brand?
I calll it “juggling”. Quite frankly, it has been hard as heck! I try not to beat myself up, and also allow myself to not drop the ball when it comes to my marriage and kids. I’ve learned the hard way that you really and truly have to make time for the priorities and what keeps you grounded in life.
What is your biggest piece of marital advice for other wives?
Talk to God and your spouse, daily. When facing difficult times, always go to the source.
Where do you see yourself, your family, and your blog and brand in 5 years?
By God’s grace, I believe that each of these things will grow into something bigger than we had ever imagined. I’m not exactly sure what the future hold, but am preparing for the best!
