This past Saturday, I co-hosted my first blog related event. As many of you know, More than a Wifey is my baby and my latest endeavor. More than a Wifey is a Facebook group where wives can connect, converse, and collaborate, and one day I hope to take it off of Facebook and make it much bigger. The More than a Wifey Brunch was my first move towards taking the concept offline and making into something more tangible. As wives and as women, we all have something in common and it’s important that we build each other up, celebrate each other’s wins, and support each other when we can. It’s important that we work together and share with one another because there is enough success to go around. Women supporting women has beome a movement and I am 100% for it. I think wives supporting wives should be a movement as well and it was my mission to start that movement by hosting a networking brunch specifically for this population.
My co-hosts, Ashlee of The Social Wives Club and Joanae of Naetorious, and I worked diligently for months to plan our event and learned a lot of lessons along the way. It was so nice to see it all come to life and we were thrilled with both the turnout and the outcome. If you didn’t make it to Saturday’s More than a Wifey Brunch, here’s what you missed:
History
The More than a Wifey Brunch was held at the Atrium on Sweet Auburn located in one of Atlanta’s most well known historically African-American neighborhoods. In the early 1900s, this area rose as one of the premier locations for black owned businesses in the country and Sweet Auburn was designated as a National Historic Landmark in the 1970s. Most people know the area as the place where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born and raised. The Atrium on Sweet Auburn is full of history and was once the first movie theatre where black people were allowed on the ground floor. It has since become a gorgeous event space and it was amazing to spend an afternoon fellowshipping in an area that has played such a major role in black history.

Girl Talk
We discussed some amazing topics at the More than a Wifey Brunch that wives and singles could both relate to. I spoke about the birth of the More than a Wifey brand and my mission to empower women to chase their dreams. Ashlee spoke about sex and intimacy in marriage and how to keep things spicy. Joanae spoke about blended families, which is a topic that so many women can relate to as the structure of the “normal” family continues to evolve. What made the girl talk at the brunch that much better was that we weren’t the only ones who shared. We did a Q+A session and the floor was open so that any woman in attendance could share her two cents. It was amazing to hear what ladies of different walks of lives and at different points in their marriages or relationships had to say about topics such as entrepreneurship, the modern day wife’s role as the woman of the household, and how to liven things up in the bedroom. If you missed the More than a Wifey Brunch, you missed quite a few gems.

Brunch Bites
Brunch is my favorite meal of the day and from bottomless mimosas to chicken and waffle skewers, and shrimp and grits shooters, we had something for every brunchinista. Our caterer, Ciara of Ciara Can Cook did an amazing job preparing food that our guests really enjoyed. I am a firm believer that good food and good drinks bring people together, and that was made evident during the More than a Wifey Brunch.

Freebies
To be honest, at the More than a Wifey Brunch, we had more giveaways than we knew what to do with. We gave away some pretty awesome items and our swag bags contained energy drinks just for women from Invok, cosmetic items from Beauty Loft Spa (who also served as the official make-up artist for myself and my co-hosts), kettle corn from Naught but Nice Kettle Corn, and a bunch of other goodies. We also gave away a ton of prizes such as t-shirts from Married Life Clothing, jewelry from Misayo House, and even free concert tickets to check out not one, but two shows at Wolf-Creek Amphitheater. The Peach and Onion provided our guests with neat DIY take-home crafts as well as free manicure sets and Mrs. Toya Carter was there selling her amazing book, The Wife’s Guide to Beating the Side Chick. Between the giveaway prizes, vendors, and swag bags, not one guest left empty handed.
Thanks to all of our fabulous sponsors, including Invok Energy Drinks
Networking
The thing that I loved most about the More than a Wifey Brunch was the genuine connections that were made. Women were sharing with one another, dropping knowledge, and offering support. Wives were talking about “wife stuff” in a safe and comfortable environment. People were exchanging business cards and contact information, giving resources, and making plans to collaborate in the future. It was truly beautiful to see women supporting women and wives supporting wives.
