The Wait is Over

Feature of the Month by Trinka Polite of FeastingontheDivine.com

I joined a gym not to lose weight or to start a diet. My goal? I needed a healthy lifestyle change! I have a family history of diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure.  Seeing the damage it could cause, I made a decision to chart a different course for my life and seriously address my health issues. I started on my own by learning about nutrition and checking out workout DVDs from the library. Visits to my doctor revealed slight decreases in my “numbers,” but it wasn’t significant enough. My goal is to eliminate reliance on prescription medication—period.

It took prayer to find the motivation and determination to join a gym, but I did! It has been one of THE best decisions! My doctor has been able to alter my meds (and eliminate a couple), because I have now embraced a healthy lifestyle-not a diet and not obsessing over weight. My blood pressure is in the normal range now and other readings have dropped by half! I have more energy and the positive results definitely spill over into every area of my life-less stress at work, better focus, and more creativity in my writing. Plus, being a member of gym with 24-hour access allows for late night workouts to help me de-stress and unwind. No excuses!

the wait is over

When you read those tips about just 15-30 minutes of exercise 3 times per week makes a difference, its true!! My workout time is scheduled on my calendar like any other important appointment. I love working out and its fun!  As Allison encourages us on a daily basis, find ways to live life well. Identify the obstacles that prevent you from living life to your fullest potential. Face them head on and remove them! I have learned that “[change] will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” –President Barack Obama.

What are you waiting for?
