Our Holiday Wish Lists

As a kid (and even now as an adult – I still give my mom a list every year), my parents would ask me to come up with a list of what I wanted Santa to bring me. I would spend months racking my brain for the perfect items to include on my annual holiday wish lists. Although they made it clear that there was a chance I wouldn’t get every single thing, putting serious thought into what I wanted for Christmas built so much anticipation and made me that much more excited to see what was under the tree on Christmas morning. Creating a holiday wish list is a tradition that I plan to one day pass on to my children, but, in the meantime, it’s one that my husband and I have continued ourselves.

Every holiday season, my husband and I create and exchange wish lists. Starting at the end of the summer, we start window shopping and thinking about items that we may want for Christmas in hopes that maybe “Santa” will bring them for us. Creating these Christmas lists takes the guess work out of shopping to ensure that we each get things that we really want while still leaving some element of surprise since we don’t know exactly which items on our lists we will actually receive come Christmas morning. We still both pick up a couple of surprise stocking stuffers and little odds and ends for one another, but the bigger gifts come straight from our lists. With Christmas quickly approaching, my husband and I both put the final touches on our lists and exchanged them last week so that we could both start our holiday shopping. We try to make a pretty big deal out of Christmas even though we are typically away from our families. Christmas in Japan this year will be no exception, so we are both eager to start putting some gifts under our tree. I’m excited to share our holiday wish lists with all of you.
