Any couple that has been together for more than a year will tell you that sometimes, it can be difficult to keep things exciting. Even though my husband and I have only been married for going on 10 months, we have been together for 7 years, 6 of which we have spent living together. Naturally, after being together for so long, we are always looking for ways to spice things up because we NEVER want to be one of those old, boring couples.

There are a million articles out there that give advice as to how to spice up a long-term relationship and most of the suggestions are viable. One piece of guidance that they all have in common is to never stop dating each other. It is so important to continue to make time for one another and go on dates. Further, Sara Altschule of Bustle.com stresses the importance of not only dating, but also dating differently. After a while, dinner and a movie just won’t cut it and it is crucial that couples get out of their comfort zones and try new things together. For Atlanta-based couples such as my husband and me, Society 414 offers a cure for the common date night.
The premise of Society 414, a secret supper club headed by a husband and wife, is to plan and organize date nights for couples. What makes it super exciting is that you don’t know exactly what you will be doing until you arrive. You are informed of the time, date, and dress code (last night’s was black and white summer chic) and receive one clue as to what your night will consist of. The location of the event is released to attendees 2 days beforehand. Each date night consists of a surprise location, a venue styled by one of Atlanta’s premiere event planners, delicious cuisine, and entertainment or an interactive experience. On top of that, guests get the opportunity to meet and interact with other couples.
Last summer, my husband and I attended Society 414’s first curated date night, which was a Havana-nights themed evening complete with Cuban food, great drinks, and salsa dance lessons. We had so much fun that we have been telling all our friends about it and dying to go to another one of their events. Given our schedules and time spent overseas, we missed a few, but were so excited to attend last night’s date night at the Venetian Room.
My husband and I at our first Society 414 Date Night last summer
Last night’s date night was just as fun (if not even moreso) than the one we attended last summer. When we stepped foot in the Venetian Room and discovered that the evening would have a 1920’s theme, we knew we were in for a treat. The night started with cocktail hour in which champagne and h’orderves were served as guests mingled and played 1920’s trivia. We then moved into the main room, which was decorated beautifully in black and gold. We enjoyed a wonderful sit-down dinner then played casino games (complete with professional dealers who would teach you any game you weren’t familiar with) as a live jazz band played. My husband and I won more than $14,000 worth of casino chips and are already planning a trip to Vegas so that we can play for real cash instead of raffle tickets. We really had a great evening and it was so much fun to do something out of the ordinary.

The date nights offered by Society 414 are a great way to break out of any rut, try something new, and spice up your relationship. We have thoroughly enjoyed both of the events that we have attended and they are always well worth the ticket price. Hopefully, they will soon expand to other cities so that couples everywhere can join in on the fun. Until then, there are a million pins on Pinterest that give different date ideas and I have pinned some on my Love Well page to offer inspiration to those of you who don’t live in Atlanta but are looking to spice up your dating life.
