Hit the Ground Running: Our First Year of Marriage

DeQuan,

I have been looking for you since I read my first fairytale…
You are everything I ever hoped for, an exact replica of the man I daydreamed about as a little girl, the one I thought only existed in my dreams.
A love like ours, a love that conquers all, happens once in a lifetime, and I knew that day we first met in the Coca Cola building that my Prince Charming had arrived. You are a part of everything I think, do, and feel, and with you by my side, I know anything is possible.
Loving you is a privilege and I promise to always show you how blessed I am that God chose me to love you. I promise to be honest and faithful, and to never take your love for granted. I promise to be your biggest fan. I promise to encourage you and to inspire you, and most of all, to love you unconditionally through the good and especially the bad times.
I promise to always make time for us, to try new things with you, and to cherish each moment of this journey we are starting together today. I promise to be your best friend and always play and laugh with you, even when you show me vines that aren’t funny. I promise that I will be loyal to you, and love, and adore you always. I will try my hardest to bring out the best in you and be the best woman and partner I can be everyday. Trials will come, and I promise to stay with you for the magnitude of things you do right and not leave you for the few things you do wrong. Most of all, DJ, I promise to dream with you, because the love we share is proof that dreams really do come true…

For those of you who enjoyed the preview and want to see more of our special day,

One year ago today, I stood in front of my family and friends and said the vows above to the man that is now my husband. Those of you who have been keeping up with LiveLifeWell know that the day I married DeQuan was the best day of my life thus far. I can’t begin to express the joy I felt marrying my best friend in front of our families and closest friends. As I reflect on that day, I almost can’t believe that it was already a year ago. I suppose the reason that the time has passed so quickly is because, like we have been doing throughout our entire relationship, we hit the ground running.

More than anything else, this year has taught me so much about compromise, patience, and rolling with the punches. A couple of days after our wedding (like literally – a couple – as in 2), my husband and I moved to Italy, where we spent 8 months living in a small town near Milan. Our extended honeymoon (as I like to call it) is something I will never forget and it was spectacular to get to spend the majority of our first year as man and wife exploring, trying new things together, and learning about a new culture.

People say that the first year of marriage is the hardest. I was warned time and time again how much things between DeQuan and I would change once we said “I Do.” I’m so happy that, in our case, people were wrong. Things are still very much the same as they were when we were engaged and even just boyfriend and girlfriend. We still have just as much fun together, treat each other the same, communicate as much, and argue occasionally as we always have (because…let’s be real, no relationship is perfect and without arguments, there would be no make ups!). We haven’t stopped dating each other and I pray that we never will. I know that things will not always be perfect and I’m sure we will eventually have a year that is not altogether great, but, as of now, everything is smooth sailing and our first year of marriage was one filled with happiness and new adventures.

People say the

During this monumental year, I learned so much about my husband and our goals and dreams. We accomplished more than I ever thought we would both individually and collectively, and I am so excited about what’s to come…

To my husband on our first anniversary: the sky is the limit! I am so honored to be your wife and look forward to all that we will achieve in year two, year three, and the forever to follow. I love you more than words.
