3 Ways to Have a New Experience in an Old Destination

I love visiting new places, but there are some destinations that I enjoy so much that I go back over and over again. Grand Cayman is one of those destinations. Last weekend, I went to Grand Cayman for the third time. Whenever I go to places that I’ve been before, I try to switch things up. It is possible to have a new experience in an old destination if you utilize any of these 3 simple tips:

We all have those travel spots that we visit over and over. Find out how you can have a totally new experience in an old destination.

3 Ways to Have a New Experience in an Old Destination

  1. Go with different people: Going to an old destination with a different group of people is probably the easiest way to have a new experience. No matter what you do, it will feel different if you have different company. The first time I visited Grand Cayman, I went on a mother-daughter trip with my mom. Last summer, I went with my mom, her friend, and my husband. This year, my husband and I went on a group couples’ trip with two of my sorority sisters and their significant others. Exploring the island with a different group made it feel like a totally new destination.

  1. Switch up your activities: There is so much to do in many destinations that it’s often difficult to cram it all into one visit. Changing up your activities is a great way to have a completely new experience in an old destination. Try things you’ve never done and go places you’ve never been. I’ve still yet to visit Grand Cayman’s infamous turtle farm, and that’s something I definitely want to do the next time I’m on the island. This trip, we switched up our activities by eating in most evenings instead of eating out every night. It was a breath of fresh air and showed me how relaxing Grand Cayman is when you’re not on a strict schedule.

  2. Open your mind to a new perspective: Going somewhere you’ve been a million times with a new perspective makes all the difference. Usually, on my trips, I’m all about going, seeing, and doing. On this vacation, my focus was on being present in the moment. Focusing on being present allowed me to really enjoy the time we had on a beautiful island with some of our good friends. I tried my hardest not to be attached to my phone and camera and I found that my new outlook allowed me to see Grand Cayman in a whole new light and have a completely new experience.

Do you repeat destinations? If so, how do you ensure that you have a new experience each trip?
