3 Ways to Express Gratitude to Your Spouse

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I started November with a goal to add gratitude to each day. It’s made me happier, more appreciative, and a more positive person overall. One way to add gratitude to your daily life is to compliment something or someone everyday, and today, I have to compliment my amazing husband. For the past few months, we’ve been apart while I’ve been in Atlanta taking the necessary steps to start my career as a marriage and family therapist and he’s been playing on a professional basketball team in France. Throughout my professional journey, he has been more supportive than I ever imagined and for that (and all of the other things he does), I appreciate him. It’s so important that people get the roses while they can still smell them, so we must make sure that our loved ones know just how thankful we are for their gestures, both big and small. Our significant others do so much for us and sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of daily lives, we forget to express our appreciation. Here are 3 ways that you can express gratitude to your spouse, not just around Thanksgiving, but all year long:

3 Ways to Express Gratitude to Your Spouse

  1. Surprise him with random thank you notes: Who doesn’t love getting a sweet card? Surprising your spouse with either hand written thank you notes or cards that express just the right words is a great way to express your gratitude. Leave them on his pillow, in her car, or discretely tuck them in the pocket of the jacket he’s planning to wear the next day. I love to leave them in my husband’s basketball shoes so he finds them when he’s suiting up for practice.

  2. Praise him publicly: A great way to express gratitude to your spouse is to praise him in front of an audience. I love to thank my husband during toasts at family dinners. No matter the setting, it’s an awesome feeling to be bragged about. Praising your husband publicly let’s him know, not only that you’re thankful for all that he does, but also that you want to world to know it.

  3. Give him the gift of you: I’m all for gift giving to express gratitude to your spouse. Although material things are usually nice, the gift of you might be even more appreciated. Plan a special romantic outing for the two of you, join your spouse for his favorite activity, or set aside some quality time at home to show your appreciation. I also love the idea of literally giving the gift of you and presenting yourself to your husband wearing a bow (and nothing else).
