3 U.S. Cities to Visit for St. Patrick’s Day

Can you believe we are almost half way through March? That means that St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. I’ve never been lucky enough to live in a city where St. Patrick’s Day was a huge deal. Besides the green eggs and ham that we used to have for breakfast on March 17th when I was in elementary school and the excuse to go out drinking in your sexiest green article of clothing when I was in college, my celebrations of this Irish holiday are usually fairly nonexistent. Although St. Patrick’s Day isn’t a huge deal where I live, there are plenty of U.S. cities that do it up and spending the holiday in one of these 3 cities is on my bucket list:

If you're looking for a festive St. Patrick's Day, these 3 U.S. cities that go above and beyond should be on your bucket list!

3 U.S. Cities to Visit for St. Patrick’s Day

Chicago

Although Chicago is less than 7% Irish (while a lot of the other cities that go all out for St. Patrick’s day are closer to 13%), their celebration of the Feast of St. Patrick is one of the most well known in the country. Every year on the Saturday before March 17th, the Chicago River is dyed green and with a number of Irish pubs around the city, you’re sure to score your fair share of Guinness and fish and chips.

Savannah

As a Georgia resident, this is the most feasible St. Patrick’s Day destination for me. Savannah is about a 4 hour drive from Atlanta and has one of the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the world complete with a huge parade and a 3 day festival on River Street. They start the festivities on March 10th and have daily events until the day after the holiday.

Boston

It’s no secret that Boston has the largest percentage of people who identify as Irish in the country so it should be no surprise that this city hosts the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the U.S.. There are a number of other events that happen around the holiday, including pub crawls, a road race, and concerns. If you’re looking to explore the more cultural side of the holiday instead of drinking green beer all day, there is also an Irish Heritage Trail what celebrates the contributions that Irish immigrants and their descendants have made to Boston and the rest of the country.

Which of these U.S. cities which you most like to visit for St. Patrick’s Day?
