3 Reasons I’m Ecstatic To Be Back in Atlanta

It’s so true that when you’re away from home for a long period of time, the weeks are long, but the months fly by! Although time seemed to move at snails pace at some points, now that 6 months has passed since my husband and I moved to Japan and I look back, I feel like the time has gone by so fast. I’m back in Atlanta, and I’m SO glad to be home! I have a lot of exciting things planned for this summer that I’m happy to be back on my stomping grounds. I’m also ecstatic to be back in Atlanta for a few other reasons!

I've been in Japan for 6 months and I'm SO happy to be home! Find out why I'm ECSTATIC to be back in Atlanta.

3 Reasons I’m Ecstatic To Be Back in Atlanta

Family

I feel like we missed so much in the 6 months we were away. We missed birthdays, holidays, and, unfortunately, even funerals. One of the main reasons I’m glad to be back in Atlanta is because we really have missed our family. I’m glad to be able to drive to my sister’s house spontaneously, chit chat with my niece about her high school life, go to my nephew’s basketball games, and grab lunch followed by mani/pedis with my mom. I’m eager to see my loved ones and make up for lost time. Needless to say, we will be hosting a lot of Sunday dinners and family game nights this summer.

Friends

Although the majority of my friends are spread throughout the U.S. and not actually in Atlanta, I feel SO much further away from them when I’m out of the country. People say that a plane ride is a plane ride and while that has some truth to it, it’s way harder to stay connected with friends when you also have a crazy time difference to consider on top of the distance. I’m happy to be back in Atlanta so that I can spend some quality time with my girls. We have a few reunions planned that I’m really looking forward to.

Familiarity

I’m honestly just glad to be back to things that I know and am familiar with. I’m happy to be able to drive across the street to a grocery store that I know like the back of my hand. I’m happy to be able to see my hair stylist and go to my regular nail salon. I’m REALLY happy to eat at restaurants that I love and missed tremendously, and, more than anything else, I’m happy to be back in a country where English is the primary language so that I can stop relying on Google Translate all the time. I missed our home, our bed, and our kitchen (which has a REAL stove, unlike our kitchen in Japan). All in all, I’m just glad to be back in our normal environment for a little while.

Although I’m SO glad to be back home, there are definitely a few things I’ll miss about Japan. On top of that, I built some relationships that I think will be long term and I was a little sad to leave the people that I connected with. As one last hurrah, my husband and I invited a few friends to join us for dinner and drinks on Cinco De Mayo. We chowed down on Mexican food at Hacienda in Shibuya, then we headed over to Agave, a tequila and cigar bar in Roppongi, for post-dinner drinks. Here’s what I wore for my impromptu goodbye party:
