It’s been just under 2 months since my husband left for France. For the first time ever, we’ll be apart for most of the basketball season, and while it’s been difficult, to say the least, we’re finding unique ways to cope. While a long distance relationship would never be my first choice, there are several reasons why some time apart isn’t the worst thing in the world. The main thing that we’ve been working on since my husband has been overseas is communication. We’ve already been able to improve our communication skills in ways that I didn’t even know we needed to. I’ve started asking my husband 3 questions every day and it’s helped us stay connected. Here are the 3 questions you should ask you spouse daily to improve your communication, show that you care and are invested in your relationship, and increase intimacy:
3 Questions You Should Ask Your Spouse Daily
How are you? | I know this sounds cliche. We ask people how they are so many times throughout the day, but how many times do we actually mean it? It’s important to ask your spouse how he or she is doing daily and ask genuinely. Care about their response and recognize the differences between “fine,” “good,” “tired,” “overwhelmed,” and “great” or whatever other answers they may give.
What do you need from me? | Piggybacking on the previous question, ask your significant other what they need from you every day. Some days, he or she may have something concrete for you to do while on other days, it may be more of a emotional need that they need met, but be receptive. It’s important that both people in a relationship are having their physical, mental, and emotional needs met.
You know that I love you, right? | Telling someone that you love them is great, but asking them if they believe you is something totally different. My husband started asking me if I know that he loves me instead of just stating it and it’s caused me to think about the fact that I do know and consider how I know. Asking will give your spouse a chance to consider these things, and it will also give them a chance to say no. If he or she says that they don’t know, repeat question 2 and find out what it is that you can do to prove it.
Which questions would you add to this list?
